When friends and family come to visit this year, let the first thing they see be a handsome wreath or festive swag that says: “Welcome Friends! Good to see you! That’s a lovely sweater! Isn’t it a wonderful Holiday Season? Merry, Merry Christmas!” And although talking wreaths may be out of the question, when you add the right touches to your front door decorations this season, it can set the tone for the holiday.
When you’re assembling your greens, look for a traditional balsam or a mixed variety. Try adding frosted pinecones and bright red berries to add a natural touch. Don’t forget a rich velvet bow that pleases the eye and captures the merriness of the season.
Try experimenting with dried pods, herb cuttings, holly, small toy horns or drums, and sparkling ornaments. You can use these additions to make the wreath or swag reflect your indoor decor as well as showcase your creativity.
Also, try hanging evergreen garland over your door to enhance the entry to your home. Figure roughly 6 yards for a doorway and 3 yards for a lamppost while shopping for garland. Add glittering lights, velvet bows, and pinecones to coordinate with your wreath or swag.
Most importantly, while you’re decorating this season do it with joy. It’s a merry time of year, so stay merry while decorating your home. Remember, it is not what you do, but how you do it that makes all the difference for a joyous holiday season.
